From the view-filled guesthouses (one of which is pictured left) to the captivating ten-bedroom residential lodge created in the 1920s, the compound at sparkling Meeks Bay rekindles the lake’s heyday—when it was the place to be for Tahoe’s elite, welcoming such illustrious guests as Charles Lindbergh after his 1927 transatlantic flight. Earlier history recounts that the Washoe Indians once camped along the beautiful bay. The original ten acres of cedar and pine trees still envelop the Tyrolean lodge in a blissful wonderland. Lawns sweep from the house to reveal an array of smaller houses, a tennis court, caretaker’s house, two piers, three buoys, and—one of the surprises—an on-land boathouse with apartment and unique historic rail to the lake (upper right).
