Plum Farm, Lakeside, Michigan

Offered at $2,900,000

Michigan antique dealer Mike Bell and his wife, Donna, drew on their love of the south of France when they created Plum Farm. Past stone gates unveiling 25 rolling acres interwoven with dense woods, long-established orchards, perennial gardens, and a pond, what was once a small farmhouse is now a picturesque French country house filled with 18th- and 19th-century French and English antique details such as hand-carved doors and a powder room sink created from an Empire-style mahogany commode. Beyond an entrance hall floored in parquet de Versailles, the huge open light-filled living room rises to tall rafters under which rests a handsome nine-foot armoire from Bordeaux. An English conservatory inspired the garden-view dining room, crowned with a 19th-century bell-shaped gazebo top. As a final touch of romance, the Bells created a poolside guesthouse to echo Plum Farm’s spirit—a spirit irresistible to friends and family alike.
