Ralph Walton

Ralph Outlaw Walton III hails from Georgia and has a passion for ski towns. In 1970, he moved to Crested Butte, Colorado before the streets were paved and later won the state alpine ski racing championships in 1976. In 1993, he returned there to start his family as a ski company executive. In 2002, Ralph relocated his family to Montana where he launched two large-scale developments in Big Sky and in Bigfork. During this time, he attempted to acquire South America’s largest ski resort with three Argentine businessmen. In 2013, Ralph moved back to Colorado settling into Steamboat Springs where he won his first ski race at Howelsen Hill in 1974. Having visited almost every major ski area in North America, Ralph feels right at home in the mountains. Ralph is an accomplished real estate professional. He led the phased development of three master-planned communities in Colorado and Montana totaling more than 1,400 homes on 4,700 acres and with $575 million in proforma sales. He has overseen all major development functions, including planning and entitlements, horizontal and vertical construction, marketing and sales as well as operations and finance. Also, he holds supervising broker licenses in Colorado, Montana, and Idaho. Ralph started his career as a CPA with KPMG Peat Marwick’s New York office and then as a strategy consultant based in Paris, France. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and an MBA from New York University. Ralph is the co-founder of Cedar House Partners, a boutique investment, and advisory services firm focused on resort properties in the Rocky Mountain West. Recent projects include co-sponsoring a 70-unit assisted living and memory care development in Denver, project management for two tax-increment financing districts in Colorado and Montana, and market feasibility and due diligence of an $18 million purchase of a distressed subdivision by a $7 billion private equity firm in Chicago. Walton recently joined Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty to lend his real estate expertise to buyers and sellers of fine properties in the Steamboat area. He complements his brokerage activities with hand-picked real estate advisory assignments and investments. He is married to Martina, a Czech national, who he met while working in France. They have two college-aged children, Veronica and Brittain, and a rescue lab, Layla.
